Kevin Shang is a senior research analyst in Wood Mackenzie‘s London office, focusing on energy storage supply chain and technology. He leverages his background in materials science research and global competence to deliver high-quality research and analysis as well as key insights into technology, policy and markets for batteries and energy storage.

Before that, he was leading Roskill‘s (acquired by Wood Mackenzie in 2021) research and analysis on cathode and precursor, battery manufacturing and battery supply chain.

His research and analysis on battery industry and market is frequently featured in the multiple press outlets, including Financial TimesBloomberg, Mining Journal. He has advised clients in government, industry and finance.

Kevin is a regular speaker at international conferences on battery technology and supply chain, including Battery ShowInternational Battery Seminar.

Kevin always has an entrepreneurial spirit. He founded Wood Mackenzie’s Global battery energy storage supply chain report, Long-duration energy storage report and co-founded Roskill’s cathode and precursor report.

Kevin obtained his PhD degree from the Department of Materialsthe University of Manchester in 2017. His research focused on using electrochemical methods and advanced microscopy to determine the root cause of metal degradation in demanding environments and propose effective solutions.

Prior to joining Roskill, Kevin worked as a presenter and researcher in Eastern Horizon, reporting China-related matters on BBC Radio Manchester. He also helped covering global energy markets during his internship in Reuters TV London.

Kevin is an interfaither. He took part in Parliamentor, a UN award-winning leadership programme organised by The Faith & Belief Forum. In 2018, he won the UK 21 For 21 Award, a national search for young interfaith leaders backed by the Prime Minister.

Kevin is also a board member on Operation Noah, an ecumenical Christian charity that campaigns exclusively on climate change.
